Straight
and Curved Stairlifts
There
are two basic types of domestic stairlift – straight and curved. As their
titles suggest, one type is constructed to fit straight staircases with
no bends or turns, the other type caters to staircases that have a mid-landings,
bends and turns.

Straight
Stairlift
A straight
stairlift can be fitted to a straight staircase, and the track length is
totally dependent upon the height and length of your stairs. A straight
stairlift track can be fitted to any distance of stairs. Depending
upon the make and model, the track is fitted to either the stairs or the
wall. Most straight stairlifts offer a perch, sit or stand transportation,
and even fold-away design. |
Curved
Stairlift
A curved
stairlift is customized to fit a staircase that has bends, turns and twists.
Curved stairlifts are ordinarily more expensive than straight stairlifts
due to the additional track complexity and additional materials required.
Also, as a curved stairlift is custom-made to a specific stairway, it is
very difficult for them to be reconditioned and reinstalled on another
staircase. Therefore, curved stairlifts are nearly always only available
new. It is imperative to have a proper staircase assessment done
if you require a curved staircase. |
